Smite enchantment

Use this Smite enchantment page to confirm max level 5, compatible items, conflicts, and how to plan the anvil order before Too Expensive appears.

Smite

Max level

Smite can be applied up to level 5. Use that cap when planning books, item combines, and final anvil cost.

Level 5

Compatible items

Smite works with these items in the catalog. Open an item page to start from that item and compare full builds.

Incompatible enchantments

These enchantments conflict with Smite in normal survival rules.

Smite planning notes

Smite is the specialized damage choice for undead targets. It can be excellent for wither skeletons, zombies, skeletons, and Wither-related goals, but it is not the same as a general Sharpness weapon. The weapon should be planned around that specialization from the start.

When it is worth using

Use Smite when the weapon has a clear undead purpose: skull farming, Wither preparation, dungeon clearing, or a dedicated undead combat kit. It can outperform a general damage route in that role.

Tradeoffs and conflicts

Smite conflicts with Sharpness and Bane of Arthropods, and on mace routes it also conflicts with Density and Breach. That makes it a deliberate identity choice, not a book to add casually.

Best pairings

  • LootingLooting pairs well on undead farming swords where drops are the point.
  • UnbreakingUnbreaking supports repeated farm or boss preparation use.
  • MendingMending protects a specialized weapon that may be expensive to rebuild.

Example planning note

Build a Smite weapon separately from a Sharpness weapon. If the source book is high level, stage support books around it and avoid adding optional fire or knockback until the core route is safe.

Anvil planning notes

  • Add Smite after checking every compatible item and conflict, especially when the build already has high prior work penalty.
  • Minecraft raises anvil cost every time an item or book is worked, so balanced combine trees help keep the final step cheaper.
  • Test the complete set in the workbench before spending levels in-game to reduce Too Expensive risk.
