Recommended mace enchantments
A mace route should start with its damage identity. Density, Breach, and Smite are not the same plan, and the best choice depends on how the mace will be used. Wind Burst can be powerful but should be treated as a high-value source book. Mending and Unbreaking protect the weapon once the damage route is settled.
Recommended set
- DensityUse Density when the mace build is focused on stronger fall-based attacks.
- BreachUse Breach when armored targets are the main reason for the mace build.
- Wind BurstTreat Wind Burst as a valuable book that deserves a tested route before the final combine.
- Fire AspectAdd Fire Aspect only when the burning behavior helps your combat plan.
- MendingUse Mending with Unbreaking if the mace is a long-term weapon rather than an experiment.
Planning priority
- Choose Density, Breach, or Smite before staging damage books.
- Keep Wind Burst clean until the final damage route has been tested.
- Pair durability support away from the most expensive combat book.
- Skip optional Fire Aspect if it pushes the route toward the anvil limit.
Conflict warnings
- Density, Breach, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods have conflict relationships that can block the final mace.
- Newer mace mechanics can vary by version or server rules, so confirm the item behavior in your world.
Least XP vs Least Prior Work
- Least XP
- Use Least XP when testing a mace build or finishing a spare weapon with clean source books.
- Least Prior Work
- Use Least Prior Work for a rare mace with Wind Burst or other books that would be painful to replace.
Planning notes
- Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
- Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
- Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
