Minecraft Enchantment Tool
Riptide enchantment
Use this Riptide enchantment page to confirm max level 3, compatible items, conflicts, and how to plan the anvil order before Too Expensive appears.
Riptide
Max level
Riptide can be applied up to level 3. Use that cap when planning books, item combines, and final anvil cost.
Compatible items
Riptide works with these items in the catalog. Open an item page to start from that item and compare full builds.
Incompatible enchantments
These enchantments conflict with Riptide in normal survival rules.
Riptide planning notes
Riptide turns the trident into a movement tool, launching the player in rain or water instead of behaving like a returning thrown weapon. That role is powerful but very different from Loyalty or Channeling. Choose the mobility identity before staging any other trident books.
When it is worth using
Use Riptide when travel, water movement, rain mobility, or elytra launch setups matter more than throwing the trident and getting it back. It is a specialized tool, not a universal trident upgrade.
Tradeoffs and conflicts
Riptide conflicts with Loyalty and Channeling. A Riptide trident cannot also be the normal thrown trident in survival rules, so players often need separate tridents for mobility and combat utility.
Best pairings
- ImpalingImpaling can support the trident when its combat use still matters in the chosen world rules.
- UnbreakingUnbreaking helps a mobility trident survive repeated launches.
- MendingMending is valuable because tridents can be slow to replace.
Example planning note
Build the Riptide trident separately from a Loyalty or Channeling trident. Test the route with Mending and Unbreaking early, then add optional combat value only if the final combine remains safe.
Anvil planning notes
- Add Riptide after checking every compatible item and conflict, especially when the build already has high prior work penalty.
- Minecraft raises anvil cost every time an item or book is worked, so balanced combine trees help keep the final step cheaper.
- Test the complete set in the workbench before spending levels in-game to reduce Too Expensive risk.
