Minecraft Enchantment Tool
Channeling enchantment
Use this Channeling enchantment page to confirm max level 1, compatible items, conflicts, and how to plan the anvil order before Too Expensive appears.
Channeling
Max level
Channeling can be applied up to level 1. Use that cap when planning books, item combines, and final anvil cost.
Compatible items
Channeling works with these items in the catalog. Open an item page to start from that item and compare full builds.
Incompatible enchantments
These enchantments conflict with Channeling in normal survival rules.
Channeling planning guide
Channeling turns a trident into a weather tool, not a normal damage upgrade. The best use comes from planning the whole setup: a thrown trident, a storm or rain rule that supports lightning in your edition, a target area, and a way to recover the trident after the throw. If you want Riptide movement, build a different trident. If you want charged creepers, witch conversions, or lightning rod utility, keep the Channeling plan clean from the start.
Compatible items and setup
Channeling belongs on a trident that is meant to call lightning with thrown hits. In Java Edition, plan around thunderstorms and exposed targets. In Bedrock Edition, lightning rod behavior can differ during rain. The item can support charged creeper setups, villager-to-witch conversion, pig-to-zombified-piglin conversion, and controlled utility farms, but it needs a thrown-trident job to feel reliable.
Best survival use
Choose it when you want a trident that returns after throws and performs a specific lightning job. It works best with Loyalty so the item comes back, plus Unbreaking or Mending because missed throws, mob setups, and weather windows can lead to repeated use.
Conflicts and tradeoffs
Channeling conflicts with Riptide, so decide whether this trident is a lightning tool or a movement tool before you build any books. It does not belong on the same role as a rain-launch trident.
Anvil order notes
Stage Channeling with Loyalty and durability books before the final item combine. If Impaling is also part of the plan, test whether the damage book pairs better with Loyalty or with the Channeling side before applying to the trident.
Common mistakes
- Adding Channeling to a trident already planned for Riptide, then discovering the core movement job and lightning job cannot share the item.
- Skipping Loyalty on a valuable Channeling trident and losing time or the item itself after a throw during bad visibility.
In survival, prepare the target area before the storm starts: make a safe pen, control bystanders, protect villagers, and keep a backup weapon ready. Lightning utility is powerful, but weather timing and mob movement make rushed attempts messy.
Anvil planning notes
- Add Channeling after checking every compatible item and conflict, especially when the build already has high prior work penalty.
- Minecraft raises anvil cost every time an item or book is worked, so balanced combine trees help keep the final step cheaper.
- Test the complete set in the workbench before spending levels in-game to reduce Too Expensive risk.
