Impaling enchantment

Use this Impaling enchantment page to confirm max level 5, compatible items, conflicts, and how to plan the anvil order before Too Expensive appears.

Impaling

Max level

Impaling can be applied up to level 5. Use that cap when planning books, item combines, and final anvil cost.

Level 5

Compatible items

Impaling works with these items in the catalog. Open an item page to start from that item and compare full builds.

Incompatible enchantments

These enchantments conflict with Impaling in normal survival rules.

No incompatible enchantments in the catalog.

Impaling planning guide

Impaling needs edition context before it needs an anvil plan. In Java Edition, the damage bonus is aimed at aquatic mobs. In Bedrock Edition, the bonus can apply more broadly when targets are in water or rain. That difference changes whether the book belongs on an ocean tool, a rainy combat trident, or a niche spare. Check the edition and server behavior first, then choose whether the trident should return with Loyalty or move you with Riptide.

Compatible items and setup

Impaling belongs on a trident when the item is meant to add damage in water-related combat. In Java Edition, plan it for aquatic mobs such as guardians, fish, turtles, and similar targets. In Bedrock Edition, the bonus can apply to entities in water or rain, so the same book may have broader combat value.

Best survival use

Choose it for a trident with a clear combat job: a thrown Loyalty weapon, a close Riptide weapon, or a dedicated ocean fight tool for monuments, drowned fights, and wet-weather combat. It works best when paired with the movement or return plan that matches how you actually attack.

Conflicts and tradeoffs

Impaling has no direct conflict in this catalog, but it sits beside a bigger job decision. Loyalty and Riptide conflict with each other, so the same Impaling book may belong on very different trident plans.

Anvil order notes

Choose the trident role first, then stage Impaling with Loyalty or Riptide and Unbreaking or Mending. If Channeling is part of a thrown build, test the order with Loyalty before the final item combine.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming every server treats Impaling exactly the same and investing in a damage trident before checking the local behavior.
  • Adding damage first and only later deciding whether the trident should return, launch the player, or serve a lightning utility role.

In survival, bring a backup weapon while testing trident combat. Water, storms, drowned, guardians, and server rule differences can make the weapon feel inconsistent until you know exactly when the damage bonus matters.

Anvil planning notes

  • Add Impaling after checking every compatible item and conflict, especially when the build already has high prior work penalty.
  • Minecraft raises anvil cost every time an item or book is worked, so balanced combine trees help keep the final step cheaper.
  • Test the complete set in the workbench before spending levels in-game to reduce Too Expensive risk.
