Recommended trident enchantments
A trident needs an identity before it needs books. Loyalty and Channeling support a thrown weapon, while Riptide turns the trident into movement. Because Riptide conflicts with Loyalty and Channeling, the final role must be chosen early. Mending and Unbreaking are especially important because replacing a trident can be slow.
Recommended set
- LoyaltyUse Loyalty when the trident is a thrown weapon you want returned after each attack.
- ChannelingUse Channeling only on the thrown route, usually after deciding that storms and lightning utility matter.
- RiptideUse Riptide for travel and mobility, not for a Loyalty or Channeling build.
- ImpalingAdd Impaling when aquatic or edition-specific combat value fits your world.
- MendingPlan Mending early because tridents are uncommon and worth preserving.
Planning priority
- Choose thrown trident or Riptide travel tool before staging any conflict book.
- Pair durability support with the role-defining enchantment, then test Impaling as a separate branch.
- Keep Channeling off a Riptide plan because the conflict will block the route.
- Use cleaner books for the role-defining enchantments before optional combat upgrades.
Conflict warnings
- Riptide conflicts with both Loyalty and Channeling, so it creates a completely different trident.
- Edition, weather, and server rules can change how valuable some trident choices feel in practice.
Least XP vs Least Prior Work
- Least XP
- Use Least XP for a spare movement trident or a simple thrown weapon with clean books.
- Least Prior Work
- Use Least Prior Work for a rare trident you want to keep repairable with Mending over time.
Planning notes
- Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
- Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
- Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
