Recommended boots enchantments

Boots are often the most complicated armor piece because movement choices stack with survival choices. Feather Falling is usually high value, while Depth Strider and Frost Walker define different travel styles. Soul Speed has its own use case. Plan boots carefully so movement utility does not turn the final armor piece into the most expensive part of the set.

Recommended set

  • Feather FallingUse Feather Falling as a priority safety enchantment for everyday boots.
  • Depth StriderChoose Depth Strider for water movement and broad survival usefulness.
  • Frost WalkerChoose Frost Walker for ice travel or special terrain plans, not on the same boots as Depth Strider.
  • Soul SpeedAdd Soul Speed when Nether travel matters enough to justify the extra book history.
  • MendingUse Mending with Unbreaking for boots that will take constant durability wear.

Planning priority

  1. Choose Depth Strider or Frost Walker before combining movement books.
  2. Stage Feather Falling and the selected movement enchantment as high-priority utility.
  3. Add durability support before optional Soul Speed or Thorns.
  4. Consider separate travel boots if one pair is trying to solve too many terrain problems.

Conflict warnings

  • Depth Strider and Frost Walker conflict, so they should usually become separate boot plans.
  • Soul Speed and Thorns can be useful but may increase durability pressure and route cost.

Least XP vs Least Prior Work

Least XP
Use Least XP for temporary travel boots or a specialized pair with only one movement role.
Least Prior Work
Use Least Prior Work for everyday boots with Feather Falling, Mending, and a long service life.

Planning notes

  • Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
  • Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
  • Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
