Frost Walker enchantment
Use this Frost Walker enchantment page to confirm max level 2, compatible items, conflicts, and how to plan the anvil order before Too Expensive appears.
Frost Walker
Max level
Frost Walker can be applied up to level 2. Use that cap when planning books, item combines, and final anvil cost.
Compatible items
Frost Walker works with these items in the catalog. Open an item page to start from that item and compare full builds.
Incompatible enchantments
These enchantments conflict with Frost Walker in normal survival rules.
Frost Walker planning guide
Frost Walker is a boot choice for walking over water, protecting your feet from magma blocks and campfires, and making certain travel moments easier. The boots do not lose durability from standing on magma blocks or campfires. It is not the same job as Depth Strider. One helps you cross the surface; the other helps you move under water. Treat Frost Walker as a swap pair or a deliberate travel pair, then keep your main underwater boots separate if swimming control matters.
Compatible items and setup
Frost Walker belongs on boots that are meant to turn water surfaces into temporary ice and make certain cold travel routes easier. It is a movement job, so it should be planned with the rest of the boot build instead of being added to the same pair by accident.
Best survival use
Choose it for travel boots, ice-adjacent building, ocean crossings, swamp movement, or utility situations where walking over water is more valuable than fast swimming. It is usually strongest as a niche pair you swap into, while everyday boots may prefer a different water plan.
Conflicts and tradeoffs
Frost Walker conflicts with Depth Strider, so the tradeoff is walking over water versus moving well through water. Mixing movement identities late is the easiest way to waste a boot plan.
Anvil order notes
Decide Frost Walker before adding Feather Falling, Soul Speed, Unbreaking, Mending, or protection books. Stage the movement choice early, then test the final boot plan before applying the completed book to the item.
Common mistakes
- Adding Frost Walker to your only high-value boots, then missing Depth Strider whenever you need underwater control or monument work.
- Treating Frost Walker as the same water upgrade as Depth Strider, then needing underwater control after the boots already carry the wrong movement choice.
In survival, remember that temporary ice changes the area around you and can interfere with boats, water elevators, crop water, and other players. Keep a normal pair of boots nearby when a build needs stable water behavior.
Anvil planning notes
- Add Frost Walker after checking every compatible item and conflict, especially when the build already has high prior work penalty.
- Minecraft raises anvil cost every time an item or book is worked, so balanced combine trees help keep the final step cheaper.
- Test the complete set in the workbench before spending levels in-game to reduce Too Expensive risk.
