Compatible enchantments

Helmet can use these enchantments in the calculator. Open an enchantment page for details, then return here to compare build orders.

Recommended helmet enchantments

A helmet mixes protection with water utility. Protection, Respiration, and Aqua Affinity usually define the useful set, while Unbreaking and Mending protect the investment. Thorns can be added, but it increases durability pressure and should be tested instead of assumed. Plan the helmet as its own item rather than copying the chestplate route.

Recommended set

  • ProtectionUse Protection for the everyday helmet unless a specialized damage type set has a clear purpose.
  • RespirationAdd Respiration when underwater mining, ruins, or ocean travel matter.
  • Aqua AffinityUse Aqua Affinity with Respiration when the helmet supports real water work.
  • UnbreakingStage Unbreaking with Mending or utility so durability support stays affordable.
  • MendingUse Mending for a main helmet that will stay in the armor set for a long time.

Planning priority

  1. Choose the protection family before adding utility books.
  2. Pair water utility together or with durability support, then test the cheaper branch.
  3. Add Thorns only after the main survival helmet route is safe.
  4. Use the same route discipline for turtle shells, but check their item-specific utility first.

Conflict warnings

  • Protection variants conflict, so specialized helmets should be planned as separate items.
  • Thorns adds value for some combat builds but can increase durability pressure on the armor set.

Least XP vs Least Prior Work

Least XP
Use Least XP for a temporary or specialized helmet where current cost matters most.
Least Prior Work
Use Least Prior Work for a main survival helmet that may need repairs or future adjustments.

Planning notes

  • Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
  • Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
  • Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
