Minecraft Enchantment Tool
Respiration enchantment
Use this Respiration enchantment page to confirm max level 3, compatible items, conflicts, and how to plan the anvil order before Too Expensive appears.
Respiration
Max level
Respiration can be applied up to level 3. Use that cap when planning books, item combines, and final anvil cost.
Compatible items
Respiration works with these items in the catalog. Open an item page to start from that item and compare full builds.
Incompatible enchantments
These enchantments conflict with Respiration in normal survival rules.
No incompatible enchantments in the catalog.
Respiration planning notes
Respiration extends underwater breathing, which makes helmets much better for oceans, ruins, underwater building, and mining. It is a slot-specific utility enchantment, so the main question is how to combine it with protection and durability support without overloading the helmet.
When it is worth using
Use Respiration when water work is part of the world: ocean exploration, drowned farms, underwater bases, or long mining sessions below water. It is less urgent on a helmet that never leaves dry land.
Tradeoffs and conflicts
Respiration has no direct conflict, but helmets can become crowded with Protection, Aqua Affinity, Mending, Unbreaking, and optional Thorns. The order matters when the source books are old or built from smaller books.
Best pairings
- Aqua AffinityAqua Affinity complements Respiration by making underwater work feel complete.
- ProtectionProtection keeps the helmet useful outside water as part of the main set.
- MendingMending supports a utility helmet that stays in the main armor rotation.
Example planning note
Pair Respiration with Aqua Affinity or durability support, then compare which branch should meet the helmet first. If the helmet is already repaired, test a fresh base before using a rare Respiration III book.
Anvil planning notes
- Add Respiration after checking every compatible item and conflict, especially when the build already has high prior work penalty.
- Minecraft raises anvil cost every time an item or book is worked, so balanced combine trees help keep the final step cheaper.
- Test the complete set in the workbench before spending levels in-game to reduce Too Expensive risk.
