Recommended bow enchantments

A bow plan is mostly shaped by the Mending versus Infinity decision. Power is usually the main damage upgrade, while Unbreaking supports either route. Flame and Punch can be useful but change combat behavior, so they should be tested after the core build is safe. Do not leave the conflict choice until the final combine.

Recommended set

  • PowerUse Power as the core damage upgrade for almost every serious bow build.
  • MendingChoose Mending for a permanent bow when arrows are easy to supply.
  • InfinityChoose Infinity when arrow management is the main problem and the bow can be replaced later.
  • UnbreakingUse Unbreaking on both routes, especially for Infinity because it cannot repair with XP.
  • FlameTreat Flame as a preference upgrade when fire behavior helps more than it complicates fights.

Planning priority

  1. Pick Mending or Infinity before building the rest of the bow book.
  2. Stage Power with one support enchantment and keep optional behavior books separate.
  3. Test Punch and Flame after the main route is affordable.
  4. Avoid repairing a nearly finished Infinity bow repeatedly before adding the last book.

Conflict warnings

  • Mending and Infinity conflict, so a late switch usually means rebuilding the route.
  • Infinity does not remove every arrow concern, especially when your play style depends on special arrows.

Least XP vs Least Prior Work

Least XP
Use Least XP for an exploration or early survival bow that values convenience more than future changes.
Least Prior Work
Use Least Prior Work for a high-value Mending bow that should stay maintainable across many sessions.

Planning notes

  • Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
  • Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
  • Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
