Recommended elytra enchantments
Elytra planning is short but high stakes. The useful route is mostly Mending plus Unbreaking, because the goal is to protect the wings and avoid repeated anvil repairs. Since elytra can be inconvenient to replace, the safest plan uses clean support books, avoids unnecessary curse books, and keeps the item history as light as possible.
Recommended set
- MendingUse Mending so experience can repair the elytra instead of relying on repeated anvil repairs.
- UnbreakingUse Unbreaking to slow durability loss and make flight sessions more forgiving.
- Curse of VanishingAvoid Curse of Vanishing on a main elytra unless the risk is intentional and understood.
Planning priority
- Start with the cleanest elytra and cleanest Mending or Unbreaking book available.
- Combine Mending and Unbreaking in the order recommended by the calculator.
- Avoid cosmetic or curse additions on a main pair of wings.
- Repair through Mending during use instead of building an anvil repair history.
Conflict warnings
- Curse books can be valid but are usually bad for a main elytra because replacement is inconvenient.
- Repeated anvil repairs before adding Mending can make the final support book more expensive than expected, especially after long flights.
Least XP vs Least Prior Work
- Least XP
- Use Least XP when the elytra is clean and only needs the two core support enchantments.
- Least Prior Work
- Use Least Prior Work when the elytra is rare, already named, or likely to stay in use for a long time.
Planning notes
- Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
- Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
- Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
