Pickaxe

Compatible enchantments

Pickaxe can use these enchantments in the calculator. Open an enchantment page for details, then return here to compare build orders.

Recommended pickaxe enchantments

A pickaxe usually needs a clear job before it needs a combine order. A Fortune pickaxe is a resource tool, while a Silk Touch pickaxe is a block-preservation tool. Both can use Efficiency, Unbreaking, and Mending, but they should be planned as separate builds so the conflict choice does not waste a clean base item.

Recommended set

  • EfficiencyEfficiency is the main feel upgrade, so use the cleanest high-level source book you can get.
  • FortuneUse Fortune on the ore and resource pickaxe, then keep that route separate from Silk Touch.
  • Silk TouchUse Silk Touch on a second pickaxe for glass, stone, ore blocks, and build materials.
  • UnbreakingStage Unbreaking with either Efficiency or the special drop enchantment before the final item step.
  • MendingMending is worth planning early because mining tools collect heavy durability history quickly.

Planning priority

  1. Decide whether this exact pickaxe is Fortune or Silk Touch before combining books.
  2. Build Efficiency from a clean source or balanced lower-level pairs instead of a long chain.
  3. Pair durability support away from the messiest source book, then compare the final two staged books.
  4. If the base pickaxe has old repairs, test a fresh base before committing rare books.

Conflict warnings

  • Fortune and Silk Touch conflict, so never experiment by combining those books together.
  • A high-level Efficiency book made from many smaller books can make a simple pickaxe route surprisingly costly.

Least XP vs Least Prior Work

Least XP
Use Least XP for a quick work pickaxe when the books are clean and you only need the tool completed once.
Least Prior Work
Use Least Prior Work for a netherite or main mining pickaxe that should stay repairable and easy to maintain.

Planning notes

  • Minecraft adds prior work penalty every time an item goes through an anvil, so balanced combine trees usually cost less.
  • Conflicting enchantments cannot be applied together unless the workbench compatibility override is enabled.
  • Keep the final combine under the Too Expensive cap by testing the full set before spending levels in-game.
